Continuing from our previous successful Fluchtpunk/Vanishing Point projects (you can read about edition 1 here, and edition 2 here), Tangent Projects will launch its third edition of this non-exhibition project on January 12th. The gallery will be open to the public from January 12th with normal gallery hours Tuesday to Friday 11 - 16h, with events on January 12th, 26th and 16th of February - all between 18:30 - 21:30h.
The literal translation of the German word fluchtpunkt is vanishing point. It is a technical term to explain a method used in drawing to illustrate perspective. The point where two parallel lines meet, where the path meets the horizon and disappears - where it ceases to exist - is the fluchtpunkt or vanishing point.
In much the same way, for the following 5 weeks Tangent Projects gallery will become a convergent point where the parallel lines of the gallery and other projects that occur under the Tangent Projects “roof,” come together to create a space for possibilities.
What is happening over there, forever beyond our vision? We can only wonder what is there, in that place we can't see or know. As such, it is uncharted and unknown territory, ("here be dragons") a place for unexplored potential.
This year, Flucktpunkt/Vanishing Point will be curated by Tsering Frykman-Glen & Mana Pinto, and will include projects by Agustina Fiorretti, Ajda Kara & Elin Lindecrantz, elisa ortega montilla & Javiera Luisina Cádiz Bedini (facilitated by Sejal Parekh), Lucía Retamar, Mark Shorter, Dimitra Stavropoulou, Tanya Zommer & Kevin Maguire, we invite you to join us.

Outside of the 3 events, the gallery space will be an empty room to be used by the Tangent Projects artists as a space for building connections and community. As such, the project will manifest in many forms depending on needs. This could include readings, workshops, meetings, meals, artists’ talks, presentations, screenings, or simply as space to be.
On-going projects within the "empty" space, and feeding into the events, will be Ajda Kara and Elin Lindecrantz's New Rituals Soundscape – Vanishing Point 3 (listen to it here), Lucía Retamar's Picnic Blanket embroidery project, and the Reading Room. The Reading Room contains texts from the various Sustenance Groups meetings, previous editions of the Reading Room, assorted publications that have been donated, and other texts, publications and books that have materialised in Tangent Projects over time.
As always, we are very grateful to Irma Marco for her beautiful text work Structure* that she produced for the first edition of Fluchtpunk/Vanishing Point in February 2022. It sits above and outside of our artspace, in the guise of a sign but as well as being a beautiful artwork, it also is a statement of intent and a glorious rally cry - COLLECTIVE RADICAL TRANSFORMATION
*Structure was made possible with the support of Sadia Pineda Hameed & Beau W Beakhouse, for which we are always grateful.
