Cotangent Invited Residencies 2024 - Veea A* Amon & Mariem Iman
Tangent Projects are extremely happy to announce that this summer we will be joined by Veea A* Amon and Mariem Iman.
Veea A* Amon is a researcher, interdisciplinary artist and lecturer based in London. Their artistic practice thrives at the intersection of meticulous research and social engagement, dissecting the intricate dance between communities, social connections, and their influence on everyday rituals and intimacy.
Through community dialogues, workshops, documentation and collaborative projects, their hope is to expand on their understanding of everyday interactions, gestures, and expressions of affection, highlighting how these rituals can cultivate a unique sense of collective intimacy.
Mariem Iman is an artist from Huelva currently based in Bilbao with a background in social and cultural anthropology. She has studied inquisitorial archives on love witchcraft in the Hispanic context of the Modern Age and has carried out ethnography on love magic in Cuba.
Her first solo exhibition, Conversando con Juana María Mulata (Conversing with Juana María Mulata), brought together these researches in a plastic form, combining pictorial installation with archival work. She is currently interested in the approach of handicraft as a working methodology: something made with her hands, for the love of making itself, with provisional materials and that can serve as a gift.
She addresses the plastic process as a dialogue of procedures of different natures from a Do it Yourself view, such as painting, drawing, editing, writing, ceramics, engraving, printing, textile work or performance (and those that may arise organically). Recently she is focusing on the processes of divergence that occur during copying, transcription or translation as spaces of plastic exploration.
