Landscape, and geography, are spatial representations of human relationships with nature. As humans are inclined to be sentimental, we like to think of it as an interdependent relationship, but in reality it isn’t, nature doesn't care about us, nature is indifferent. And deep down we all know it.

In opposition to nature's indifference, we attempt to control it and bend it to our will. We delight in our manipulations of nature and gaze on our human reflections within the landscape and celebrate it's conquest. We get misty eyed and romantic for our man-made reconstructions of nature – parks, the countryside, tamed animals in fields – poems are written, art works are created. But worse, wars are fought for resources based on geographical boundaries that were (and are) formed by imperial and colonial aggressors, and defended by those that claim superiority due to nostalgic attachments to an idea of country, of sovereignty, of borders - and still, nature doesn't give a shit.

The works in this exhibition all seek to comment on the human place within it's environment.
