Fluchtpunkt/Vanishing Point
February 4th - March 18th, Tangent Projects gallery.
Starting our year on February 4th under new signage, Tangent Projects will open with a non-exhibition. For the following 6 weeks Tangent Projects gallery will become a kind of fluchtpunkt - a convergent point where the parallel lines of the gallery and other projects that occur under the Tangent “roof,” come together to create a space for potential and possibilities.
This non-exhibition sets in motion a series of text-based activations - the new sign, performances, readings, presentations, mini-publications - all outlining how the written word can be transformative.
The new sign, itself a reiteration of a work by Irma Marco, originally shown in the exhibition Prototypes For A Feminist Future (2019), loudly declares COLLECTIVE RADICAL TRANSFORMATION like a beacon guiding the public safely inside.
From February 4th to March 18th Tangent Projects will house weekly events in the gallery space, whereby artists will consider a text and translate it into their practice. Artists include María Alcaide, Margherita Isola, Agenda Kuir, Irma Marco, Jahel Guerra Roa & Yazel Parra Nahmens, Andres Schwerer, and Lxs sexiliadxs.
To coincide with every activation, the motivating texts, among other things, will be placed in the exhibition space and will remain for the duration of the project to act as reference points of the ongoing and interconnected dialogues. Consequently, at the culmination of the 6 weeks, there will be a one-day collective exhibition recounting the different activities and exchanges held in the space by the different artists.
Outside of the activation times, the gallery space will be open to the public as a reading room with texts from the various sustenance groups meetings, last summer's reading room, assorted publications that have been donated to the reading room, and texts, books and publications that we have collected at Tangent Projects.
